# Retractable Table Lamps Switch-It by Christina Sicoli Turns from Furniture to Fixture By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-07-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switch-it-by-christina-sicoli References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2012/07/02/functional-flexabilit/) & [christinasicoli](http://www.christinasicoli.com/SwitchIt) There have been so many clever designs that integrate the functions of a table and a lamp together, but few are articulated in the manner of Switch-It by Christina Sicoli. The side [table and the table lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lumera) are a practical duo; however, this design fulfills just one purpose at a time. This fact is not a criticism of quirky object, for its flexibility is something to be admired. Logically placed within a living room environment, its form adapts to the varied activities of the occupants and users. This contraption, with a remarkably small footprint, is ideal for close-packed quarters and optimized to perform the preferred function without taking up too much space. Switch-It by Christina Sicoli can simply be pushed down into its shaft, and with a [fanned-out lampshade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tsubomi) it transforms from [floor lamp to raised surface](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-transformer-table). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 60% | Activity: 53% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Multifunctional Furniture:** Switch-It by Christina Sicoli combines a table and lamp in an innovative and practical way, representing an opportunity for furniture companies to explore more creative and space-saving designs. - **Flexible Design:** The retractable nature of Switch-It by Christina Sicoli's lamp presents an opportunity for designers and manufacturers to create more adaptable and customizable home decor pieces. - **Convertible Lighting Solutions:** Switch-It by Christina Sicoli's transforming lamp offers a unique and practical way to combine lighting and furniture, highlighting an opportunity for lighting companies to expand into multifunctional home decor. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Switch-It by Christina Sicoli's versatile and compact design presents a disruptive innovation for furniture companies looking to cater to consumers living in smaller homes or apartments. - **Interior Design:** The flexible and convertible nature of Switch-It by Christina Sicoli's lamp presents a unique opportunity for interior designers to create more adaptable living spaces for their clients. - **Lighting Manufacturing:** Switch-It by Christina Sicoli's table lamp design represents an innovative opportunity for lighting manufacturers to expand their product lines and explore new ways to combine lighting and functionality in home decor. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Space-Saving Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacesaving-desk-lamp.md) - [Reversible Glass Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jal.md) - [Ultra-Flexible Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anywhereuse-lamp.md) - [Conical Multifunctional Lamp Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-table-light.md) - [Artistic Magnetic Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scacco-matto-lamp.md) - [Foldable Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-folding-lamp.md) - [Origami-Inspired Lit Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightup.md) - [Stackable Modular Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/module-table-lamp.md) - [Elegant Compact Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-table-light.md)
