# Winsome Whirling Lights The Swirl Lamp Appears to Spin with Its Delicately Furling Fins By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-02-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swirl-lamp References: [designspotter](http://www.designspotter.com/product/2014/02/Swirl.html) & [solovyovdesign.by](http://solovyovdesign.by/en/portfolio/light/?group_id=270) The delightful details of the Swirl Lamp come from the repetitious composition of several fins made from [bend wood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/larose-guyon). Designer Igor Solovyov cuts the alder veneers into paddle-like forms and gently curves them, giving the finished product greater dimension when a dozen of them are bunched together. There is a delightful delicacy to the appearance of the apparently twisting lamps. They are reminiscent of dancers' skirts as they pirouette across a stage. To enliven them further, Solovyov enhances the [lovely curling petals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bloom-wall-light) with the application of green or pink paint on the insides. When you look straight at a Swirl Lamp, it will appear to be half bare wood and half tinted for a wonderful accent to these accenting [pendant lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nova-light). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 32% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Bend Wood Finishes:** There is an opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating bend wood finishes for various products, such as furniture and home decor items. - **Enhanced Lighting Products:** There is a potential for disruptive innovation in creating enhanced lighting products that incorporate unique design elements, like the Swirl Lamp's delicately furling fins. - **Innovative Pendant Lamps:** There is an opportunity for disruptive innovation in designing innovative pendant lamps that combine aesthetic appeal with functionality. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture:** The furniture industry can explore the use of bend wood finishes to create unique and visually appealing products. - **Lighting:** The lighting industry can incorporate enhanced design elements, like the Swirl Lamp's furling fins, to create visually striking and innovative lighting solutions. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can focus on creating cutting-edge, innovative pendant lamps that serve as both functional and decorative pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Poetic Rippling Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yurameki.md) - [Twisting Timber Lampshade Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-lasercut-wooden-lampshade.md) - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md) - [Hat-Like Fabric Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-lamp.md) - [Illusory Multidimensional Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drop-light.md) - [Organically Shaped Shadow Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loops-lamp.md) - [3D-Printed Aquatic Life Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooj-design-wavy-lamp.md) - [Rippling Aquatic Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pulse-lights.md) - [Serene Wooden Dynamic Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sleepy-wood.md)
