The building was designed by Yoshimi Kono, who wanted to make the structure both beautiful and functional. The exterior of the building is covered in foliage and features a series of overhead trellises. On the interior, thousands of square feet have been dedicated to cultivating a sustainable urban garden. Kono explains that the greenery isn't just for show, but it is actually "an effective urban farming project." In fact, these urban gardens produce more than 200 different kinds of fruits and vegetables, as well as rice paddies. This innovative green building is not only stunning, but it also addresses the limitations Japan faces in terms of available agricultural space. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.1/10 - Popularity: 86% | Activity: 88% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) > [Eco Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/ecoarchitecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sustainable Urban Gardens:** Creating urban gardens within corporate office buildings offers a unique way to integrate greenery into urban spaces. - **Green Architecture:** Designing buildings with foliage-covered exteriors and dedicated spaces for urban gardens can revolutionize traditional architecture. - **Urban Farming:** Integrating agricultural practices into office buildings can provide a sustainable source of fresh produce for employees and surrounding communities. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Architects can explore incorporating sustainable urban gardens and green architecture principles into their building designs. - **Agriculture:** The agriculture industry can explore innovative ways to incorporate urban farming practices, such as vertical gardens, into corporate spaces. - **Office Space Design:** Companies can consider integrating sustainable urban gardens into their office spaces to enhance employee well-being and promote environmentally-friendly practices. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Plant-Centric Dynamic Office Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garden-of-edyn.md) - [Japanese Garden-Inspired Offices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mitsui-co.md) - [Greenhouse Office Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/office-for-roundtable.md) - [Biophilic Workplace Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mangrove-garden.md) - [Valley-Inspired Offices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kitaoka-group-office.md) - [Greenery-Filled Skyscraper Terrarium](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/terrarium-cheongdam.md) - [Metal Roof Topped Offices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/office-in-hashima.md) - [Playful Contemporary Offices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playful-contemporary-office.md) - [Office Building Rainbow Facades](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vertical-rainbow-office.md)
