The permanent piece of artwork involved restoring 60 floodgates and covering them with [light-reflecting prisms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reflecting-diverseness). From [Studio Roosegaarde](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/circle-pavilion) in the Netherlands, the [Gates of Light Project](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tenways-ago-performance) is one of three installations part of Icoon Afsluitdijk, a government-commissioned design program with a goal to enhance "the innovative character of the legendary 32 kilometer Dutch dike whilst highlighting its key functions: water protection and heritage, energy and mobility as an exemplary model of a smart landscape for today and tomorrow." The sustainable art installations also generate shareable power. The other two elements of Iccon Afsluitdijk are Windvogel and Glowing Nature. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sustainable Art Installations:** Creating art installations that incorporate sustainable elements and utilize natural resources for energy generation. - **Smart Landscape Design:** Designing landscapes that integrate innovative technologies and serve multiple functions such as water protection, energy generation, and mobility. - **Shareable Power Generation:** Developing power generation systems that not only provide energy but also allow for sharing and distribution of excess power. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Culture:** The use of sustainable materials and energy sources in art installations opens up opportunities for artists to create innovative and environmentally friendly artworks. - **Architecture and Urban Planning:** Incorporating sustainable design principles and energy-generating features in the construction and renovation of iconic structures and landscapes. - **Renewable Energy:** Leveraging natural resources like wind and solar power to generate clean and shareable energy for various applications, including art installations and infrastructure projects. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Intricate Lighting Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/objects-of-common-interest1.md) - [Energy-Generating Park Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/energy-park.md) - [Immersive Solar-Powered Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/8-minutes-and-20-seconds.md) - [Colorfully Inflatable Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blowup-art-the-hague.md) - [Sustainable Car Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/we-harvest-wind.md) - [Eclipse-Themed Rooftop Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-zero.md) - [Dynamic Interactive Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zava.md) - [Glowing Sphere Art Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/netherlands-pavilion.md) - [Mesmerizing Fluid Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flow-fountain.md)
