# Surreally Suspended Cage Chairs The Cageling Chair is Made to Look Like a Suspended Bird Cage By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2013-10-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suspended-bird-cage References: [trendir](http://www.trendir.com/archives/006983.html) & [ontwerpduo.nl](http://www.ontwerpduo.nl/en/collection/work/cageling) Ontwerpduo's suspended bird cage 'Cageling' chair is like an oversized bird cage fit to seat a human. The striking chair retains a traditional bird cage shape, but is scaled up with the appropriate dimensions to fit the human form. The thought of a chair modeled after any sort of cage could easily cause discomfort, but the Cageling chair manages to be light and airy, leaving its users feeling "free as a bird" rather than truly contained. The [suspended chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edgeofyr) is made from [colored steel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dream-view-chair), which is available in 48 colors and complimented by pillows of the same color. Although it would look just as good inside as it would outside, the steel frame of the cage is ideal for outdoor use, especially since it has [built-in holes on its seat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stamping-chair) to help with water drainage. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 17% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Suspended Furniture:** There is an opportunity to create more suspended furniture designs with lightweight materials. - **Oversized Home Decor:** Designers can explore the trend of creating oversized home decor to add a unique touch to living spaces. - **Indoor-outdoor Furniture:** The indoor-outdoor furniture trend can be expanded by incorporating features such as water drainage for outdoor use. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** Furniture designers can experiment with creating functional pieces that also serve as stylish statement pieces. - **Outdoor Living:** The outdoor living industry can incorporate suspended furniture pieces like the Cageling Chair to provide customers with unique options for their patios and gardens. - **Home Decor:** Home decor companies can offer customers oversized options of traditional home decor items to add a playful touch to their living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Peaceful Geometric Hanging Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iko-hanging-chair.md) - [Cocoon-Like Knitted Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cocoon-chair-1.md) - [Bungee Cord Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tcord-chair.md) - [Cubic Featherlight Seat Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/please-hold-up-chair.md) - [Chaotically Natural Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kkochgalam-chair.md) - [Contemporary Leather Classic Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sling-chair-1.md) - [Ergonomic Butterfly-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wings-chair.md) - [Avian-Inspired Privacy Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peacock-chair-concept.md) - [Colorful Metal Outdoor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cesto-chair.md)
