# Ethereally Surreal Artwork (UPDATE) This Surreal Oil Painting Series Will Surprise and Delight You By Farida Helmy | Published 2014-08-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-oil-painting-series References: [inspirationhut.net](http://inspirationhut.net/inspiration/surreal-oil-paintings-joel-rea-will-blow-mind/) & [joelrea.au](http://www.joelrea.com.au/newcollection.php?aid=2&gal=nc) Depicting wild realism using a realistic approach, Joel Rea's surreal oil painting series beautifully mediate these two opposing styles to create stunning artwork that highlights the greatest aspects of both techniques. The contemporary surrealist painter renders his images in a hyper-realistic way to present his audience with artwork that is as detailed as a photograph -- his art is also special because of its vivid pulsating energy and its detailed portrayal of human emotion. The Australia-based artist contrasts lifelike visuals of dramatic landscapes with otherworldly concepts that are sure to both surprise and delight you. In his latest collection of surreal oil painting series, Rea combines realism with the impossible to confuse and excite the audience and prove that there is no way to rationalize art. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.0/10 - Popularity: 95% | Activity: 78% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Wild Realism:** Exploring the blend of realistic and surreal styles - **Hyper-realistic Artwork:** Creating artwork with intricate details comparable to photographs - **Contrasting Landscapes:** Combining lifelike landscapes with otherworldly concepts ### Where This Applies - **Fine Arts:** Opportunity to redefine traditional art forms and push boundaries - **Digital Art:** Utilizing digital tools to enhance realistic and surreal art styles - **Gallery and Exhibition:** Showcasing unique and captivating artwork that surprises and delights viewers ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Surreal Love-Themed Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joakim-ojanen.md) - [Otherwordly Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/william-monk.md) - [Apocalypse Post Pandemic Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-urban-art.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Colossal AI Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-artwork.md) - [Wonderous Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/your-psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md) - [Surreal Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jeffrey-deitch-art-gallery.md) - [Oil Painting-Inspired Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antonio-santn.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md)
