The majority of his recent works however tend to consider the world through a cynical lens -- depicting humans in situations of supreme sadness. A standout example of this includes the image of a man trapped in a jar, who is shown crouched down with his head between his knees. Another shows a rogue hand throwing up the middle finger, which is surrounded with [vibrant butterfly wings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/japonisme-1). By combining [colorful components](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/olivier-van-herpt-1) with black and white, Takeo Doman's surreal illustrations are especially eye-catching -- given that his viewers are left to interpret how the different themes interact with one another and consider which one is meant to be reality. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.7/10 - Popularity: 97% | Activity: 97% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Surreal Illustrations:** Opportunity for artists to challenge traditional artistic norms and explore unconventional themes through surrealistic techniques. - **Cynical Depictions:** Opportunity for artists to use satirical and cynical imagery as a means of social commentary and critique. - **Color Contrast:** Opportunity for artists to experiment with contrasting colors to create visually striking and thought-provoking artworks. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for artists to push the boundaries of traditional art forms and engage viewers on a deeper level through unconventional techniques. - **Graphic Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for graphic designers to incorporate surreal elements and bold contrasts in their design projects, creating visually captivating and impactful visuals. - **Advertising:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for advertisers and marketers to employ surreal illustrations to create memorable and attention-grabbing campaigns that stand out from traditional advertising approaches. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Surreal Love-Themed Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joakim-ojanen.md) - [Bi-Culture-Inspired Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bicultureinspired-art-exhibition.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Playful Doodle-Emblazoned Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sam-cox.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md) - [Hyper-Realistic Flesh Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/junji-ito.md) - [Limited Humorous Art Prints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-shrigley-1.md) - [Apocalypse Post Pandemic Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-urban-art.md)
