# Versatile Stilted Aviaries The Surfin Bird House Can Be a Closed Dwelling or an Open Birdfeeder By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-12-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surfin-bird References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2013/12/11/surfin-bird-by-dreikant/) & [koelnmade.de](http://www.koelnmade.de/english/products/) Different seasons bring a variety of different feathered creatures into your backyard. The Surfin Bird is a charming garden item that can be modified with the weather and according to the changing preferences of your winged visitors. Made by Dreikant, this cute contraption has three long wooden legs that allow you to place it on patios, decks and amidst flower beds. You don't need an ideal tree from which to hang it. On top of the stilt-like supports sits a house-shaped bare steel cubby, complete with a pitched roof and two open sides. It's inside this that you slide a wooden drawer that encloses the front and back walls and provides an entry hole and a perch. The Surfin Birdhouse can easily become the Surfin Bird Feeder. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 28% | Activity: 8% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Modular Aviary Homes:** A trend of birdhouses with modular designs that can be adapted to various bird species and seasonal changes creates disruptive opportunities in the outdoor home decor industry. - **Versatile Garden Accessories:** A trend of versatile garden accessories such as the Surfin Bird House that can serve multiple functions depending on season and preference offers disruptive innovation opportunities in the outdoor furniture industry. - **Eco-friendly Bird Feeders:** A trend towards eco-friendly bird feeders that blend into the natural environment can offer disruptive innovation opportunities in the bird feeding industry. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Outdoor Home Decor:** Outdoor home decor companies could explore creating modular birdhouses and accessories that can be adapted to various bird species and seasonal changes. - **Outdoor Furniture:** Outdoor furniture companies could create versatile garden accessories that can serve multiple functions depending on season and preference. - **Bird Feeding:** Bird feeding companies could explore creating eco-friendly bird feeders that blend into the natural environment. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Interactive Observation Wooden Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/domik-ptashki.md) - [Educational Linoleum Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elvi-birdhouse.md) - [Home Exterior Nesting Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/numbird.md) - [Sustainable Bird House Feeders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bamboo-bird.md) - [Dual-Camera Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/birdfy-nest.md) - [Modernism Birdhouse Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dwellings-project.md) - [Birdhouse-Resembling Narrow Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-birdhouse.md) - [Birdhouse-Integrated Address Signs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/our-common-house.md) - [Highly Functional Bird Feeders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ori-bird.md)
