# Surreal Land Cloud Sculptures 'Superabundant Atmosphere' Brings the Sky to the Ground By Alexander Lam | Published 2013-05-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/superabundant-atmosphere References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/jacob-hashimoto-superabundant-atmosphere) & [jacobhashimoto](http://jacobhashimoto.com/) Bringing clouds down to the earth, artist Jacob Hashimoto created an installation called 'Superabundant Atmosphere.' The sculpture consists of an abundance of [pseudo-kites strung together](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cygnet-light) to create a [surreal mirage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curly-cube). With the help of five assistants, Hashimoto created the beautiful installation with silk and bamboo. Pieces of white handmade silk cloth were attached to bamboo frames. The kites were then [suspended from the ceiling](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suspended-lighting-installation) at variable heights to create an amazing effect. With lights beaming down from the ceiling, Hashimoto's installation looks like a cloud shielding your eyes from the sun. The sculpture was arranged to look like it is rising and falling to further augment the appearance of a cloud. In addition, the use of silk means that the lights shine through it while diffusing elegantly. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 35% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Cloud Sculpture Installations:** Exploring the use of materials and lighting to create surreal cloud-like structures. - **Silk and Bamboo Art:** Utilizing the combination of silk and bamboo to create intricate and elegant installations. - **Variable Height Suspensions:** Implementing variable heights to enhance the illusion of movement and depth in art installations. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Sculpture:** Artists and sculptors can experiment with materials and lighting techniques to create unique installations. - **Interior Design and Decor:** Interior designers and decorators can incorporate cloud-inspired sculptures to add a dreamy and surreal touch to spaces. - **Event Planning and Production:** Event planners and production teams can utilize cloud sculptures to create immersive and ethereal environments for various occasions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md) - [Resin Gravity Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-great-tree.md) - [Organic Cloud-Like Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/khmara.md) - [Accessibility-Enhancing Public Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/isometric-studio.md) - [Eclipse-Themed Rooftop Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-zero.md) - [Lightning-Inspired Artful Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bright-light-shining.md) - [Weather-Inspired Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/weatherinspired-art-exhibition.md) - [Artful Garden Inflatable Spheres](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/this-is-air.md) - [Sculptural Mall Dreamscape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unbounded-sanctuary.md)
