# Sunken Kitchen Designs MAMM DESIGN Renovates an Amsterdam Apartment with Rare Floor Plan By Meghan Young | Published 2016-05-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunken-kitchen References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2016/05/02/this-multi-floored-apartment-has-a-sunken-kitchen-design/) & [mamm-design](http://www.mamm-design.com/) The idea of a sunken kitchen is not one that will readily come to anyone's mind. Yet perhaps there will be some requests after seeing what it can look like. An [old apartment in Amsterdam](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apartment-with-a-view) was recently renovated and maintained its original albeit highly unique sunken kitchen design. It ultimately gives the floor a quirky sense of personality, which is great considering how stark and simple the rest of the house is. Designed by MAMM DESIGN, the sunken kitchen and the rest of the home was renovated on the wish that there was more light and airiness throughout. What makes the sunken kitchen even more amazing, however, is its incorporation of a [play area](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onda-apartment) on top of it. It's like an indoor treehouse. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.0/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 82% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Sunken Kitchen Designs:** Design unique sunken kitchens that incorporate playful elements like indoor treehouses or additional seating areas. - **Light and Airy Interiors:** Create interior designs that prioritize natural lighting and airiness to complement unique design elements like sunken kitchens. - **Quirky Personalities in Home Design:** Embrace unusual design elements like sunken kitchens to give homes a playful and unique personality. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Interior and Renovation:** Incorporate sunken kitchen designs and light, airy interiors to create unique and playful spaces for homeowners. - **Architectural and Interior Design Services:** Offer clients unique design elements like sunken kitchens and playful indoor treehouses to set your services apart. - **Real Estate and Property Development:** Utilize unique design elements like sunken kitchens to create distinctive properties that stand out in the market. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Freestanding Experimental Kitchens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/experimental-kitchens.md) - [Space-Conscious Kitchen Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magnetic-kitchen-design.md) - [Afromosia Wood-Defined Dutch Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dab-studio.md) - [50s-Inspired Renovated Basements](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gundry-ducker1.md) - [Colorfully Transformed Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/slatuinenweg.md) - [Cabinet-Style Kitchen Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/next125-pocket-system.md) - [Reinventive Modern Kitchen Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxury-kitchen.md) - [Urban Skyline-View Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apartment-with-a-view.md) - [Hotel-Inspired Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amsterdam-zuid.md)
