# Park Bench-Inspired Couches The Summertime Sofa by Valerio Berruti Emits a Pleasant Scent By Meghan Young | Published 2014-04-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/summertime-sofa References: [trendir](http://www.trendir.com/archives/007755.html) & [gufram.it](http://www.gufram.it/) The weather might be warming up in the Northern Hemisphere finally, but the Summertime Sofa will ensure that it always feels like summer in the home even if it is the dead of winter. The [comfy couch](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-perron-pillo) is inspired by a classic park bench, which will bring to mind a sunny stroll in a local park every time a person sits in it. Designed Valerio Berruti for Gufram, the Summertime Sofa may resemble a park bench, but it isn't made out of park bench materials. In place of wood and metal, the Summertime Sofa is made out of a [comfortable polyurethane foam](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reimagined-everyday-sofa) that has been painted with the facade of the [outdoor seat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/settle-outdoor). It also emits a natural, delicate aroma of orange and cinnamon. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.2/10 - Popularity: 90% | Activity: 89% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Park Bench-inspired Furniture:** Opportunity for furniture companies to create unique designs that draw inspiration from outdoor seating. - **Sensory Furniture:** Potential for companies to develop furniture that engages multiple senses, such as emitting pleasant scents. - **Nostalgic Home Decor:** Growing demand for furniture that evokes emotions and nostalgic memories, like the feeling of sitting on a park bench. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for furniture manufacturers to create park bench-inspired designs using alternative materials. - **Home Decor:** Opportunity for home decor companies to produce furniture that incorporates sensory experiences, like emitting pleasant scents. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive opportunity for interior designers to incorporate nostalgic elements into home decor, creating cozy and inviting spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modernist Modular Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dongo-garden-sofa.md) - [Curvy Segmented Outdoor Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/segmented-outdoor-sofa.md) - [Parka Jacket-Inspired Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/parka-sofa.md) - [Capacious Outdoor Sofa Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/africa-sofa.md) - [Ergonomic Latticed Sofa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gardiners-sofa.md) - [Modular Minimalist Sofa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zonatta-bumper-sofa.md) - [Curved Bed-Inspired Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/velar-sofa.md) - [Compact Pillowy Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sander-series.md) - [Plush Sculptural Lounge Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rokko.md)
