# Contemporary Dew Catchers The Succulent Water Collector Makes Gathering Water on the Trail Easier By Michael Hines | Published 2011-10-27 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/succulent-water-collector References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2011/10/26/the-dew-trap/) & [liteonaward](http://www.liteonaward.com/) Hardcore outdoors-folk are going to love the Succulent water collector. This gadget, looking more like a grass torch than a water catcher, is designed to collect early morning dew for drinking later in the day. According to the Succulent water collector's designer Yu-ru Chen, hikers and climbers currently collect dew in plastic baggies which often end up littering trails. Succulent has been designed to reduce this waste by offering a reusable dew collector that needs only to be mounted in the ground come nightfall. The blades collect the dew and draw it down to a holding container where it can then be drank directly or transferred to a water bottle. While the Succulent water collector may not be flashy, it is a solid design that could quickly help to clean up some of the trash currently littering the great outdoors. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 7% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Sustainable Outdoor Gear:** The Succulent water collector's reusable design offers an opportunity for sustainable outdoor products. - **Eco-friendly Camping:** The Succulent water collector can improve the outdoor experience and reduce waste in camping. - **Dew Harvesting:** The Succulent water collector opens up the possibility of using dew as a water source for camping and outdoor activities. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Outdoor Recreation:** The Succulent water collector can benefit outdoor recreation industries by providing innovative and sustainable products for camping and hiking. - **Sustainability:** The Succulent water collector highlights the need for environmentally friendly designs in the outdoor industry. - **Waste Management:** The Succulent water collector can help reduce litter on trails and promote responsible waste management in outdoor activities. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Accessible Atmospheric Water Dispensers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/water-from-air.md) - [Humidity-Capturing Water Generators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kumulus1.md) - [Water-Generating Camping Trailers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2023-living-vehicle.md) - [Drinking Water Home Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atmospheric.md) - [Water Catch-Integrated Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hemisphere.md) - [Low-Maintenance Soil-Free Plants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dew-plants.md) - [Eco-Conscious Rain-Harvesting Headwear](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/daughters-of-rain.md) - [Rain-Collecting Skyscrapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bpas-architects.md) - [Beetle-Inspired Sustainable Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fog-smart.md)
