Each cover is meant to resemble a [Japanese style door](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oku-house). It acts like a real door in that it slides open and shut. This is great for hiding any [exposed outlets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/invisoutlet-aura) that aren't being used. They are not a childproofing device, but they can certainly be retrofitted to accompany such a need. Tori Sugimura handcrafted these wooden covers and they come in different sizes to fit a variety of outlet sizes. They also use authentic washi paper which is traditional of Japanese style. These stylish outlet covers by Tori will hopefully spark a variety of other covers as well. They make for a charming decoration and hide the unsightly outlets wonderfully. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 43% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Japanese-inspired Home Decor:** Opportunity for disrupting the home decor industry by incorporating Japanese-inspired covers for household essentials. - **Functional Aesthetic:** Opportunity for integrating functionality and aesthetics in designing household essentials, similar to Japanese-inspired covers. - **Customizable Household Accessories:** Opportunity for catering to individual preferences by providing customizable covers in different sizes and designs, like Tori Sugimura's outlet covers. ### Where This Applies - **Home Decor:** Integrating Japanese-inspired covers for household essentials, like outlet covers, into the home decor industry. - **Interior Design:** Using the functional-aesthetic approach of Japanese-inspired covers to enhance interior design. - **Handcrafted Goods:** Providing unique and traditional covers for household essentials, like Tori Sugimura's handcrafted outlet covers, as a niche in the handcrafted goods industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Child-Proof Outlet Guards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outletguard.md) - [Painting-Inspired Electrical Outlet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/22-system.md) - [Artfully Dynamic Power Strips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aunion.md) - [Design-Conscious Power Bars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/power-strip-concept.md) - [Japanese-Inspired Cabinet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/veil-cabinets.md) - [Socket-Concealing Light Switches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/l1-switch-system.md) - [Kimono-Inspired Lighting Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/haori-light.md) - [Design-Conscious Extension Cords](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/willow-power-supply.md) - [Japanese Gates-Inspired Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/torii-bench.md)
