# Portable Home Furniture Studio Makkink and Bey is a Line That Goes with You on the Go By Allen Taylor | Published 2014-03-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-makkink-and-bey References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/03/06/studio-makkink-bey-create-furniture-for-nomadic-living-room/) If you have any inclination that society might collapse and you’d rather be safe than sorry, you’ll be pleased that Studio Makkink and Bey created [furniture-ready for a nomadic lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expand-furniture). These pieces of furniture are made with a nomadic lifestyle in mind and utilize natural materials and animal fiber. The Studio Makkink and Bey collection includes a backpack that triple functions as a chair and a roll-out sofa bed, a basket that doubles as a table and a cane that transforms into a screen -- because in a nomadic future we’ll all have a projector, right? Either way, Studio Makkink and Bey showcase how someone could carry the comfort of a home on their own back while living a nomadic lifestyle. The straps to carry the backpack-sofa-chair are the equivalent of a wool coat for those long, cold journeys we may have to embark on. It’s reassuring that even if a nomadic society is the future, we’ll still be able to live with the comfort of the familiarity thought only to exist in a permanent household. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 72% | Activity: 55% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Nomadic Lifestyle:** Designing furniture and home decor that is lightweight and easily transportable for a nomadic lifestyle, utilizing natural materials and animal fiber. - **Multi-functional Furniture:** Creating furniture that is versatile and multi-functional, serving more than one purpose to accommodate the needs of a nomadic lifestyle. - **Portable Home Accessories:** Developing home accessories that are easily transportable and serve different purposes to cater to a nomadic lifestyle. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing Industry:** Manufacturing lightweight, versatile and multi-functional furniture for nomads using natural materials and animal fiber. - **Home Decor Industry:** Designing and developing portable home accessories using natural materials and animal fiber for people who practice a nomadic lifestyle. - **Outdoor and Adventure Industry:** Creating lightweight and easily transportable gear and equipment for nomads and adventurers who explore new terrains and environments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Transforming Workspace Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/asytron-furniture.md) - [Water-Resistant Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nomad-collection.md) - [Cutting-Edge Wearable Furnishings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cuttingedge-wearable-furnishings-mcm-wearable-casa-intersects-luxury-fashio.md) - [Stackable Flat-Pack Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bug-collection-1.md) - [Collapsible Outdoor Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-outdoor-furniture.md) - [Bold Mobile Work Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omniseat-portable-productivity.md) - [Multifunctional Park Picnic Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldable-picnic-furniture.md) - [Modular Camping Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/owomo.md) - [Inflatable Tote-Style Seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bag-sofa.md)
