# Repurposed Eco-Homes The Studio H:T Shipping Container House is Compact By Sarah Moore | Published 2012-04-15 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-ht-shipping-container-house References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/shipping-container-house/22129/) & [studioht](http://www.studioht.com/work/dwellings/shipping-container-house/) The Studio H:T Shipping Container House questions the need for elaborate and wasteful space in a home, and is mainly constructed from [two shipping crates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kennedy-model). A traditionally built living space comprises the main part of the abode, and is sandwiched between two large containers that have been repurposed to act as sleeping quarters and an office space. Located in Colorado, the home features lofty interiors and operates completely off-grid -- meaning it doesn't rely on traditional electrical energy to power it. While the home does make extensive use of [solar power](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/e55000), green roofs and [passive cooling methods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-cabana), it is not completely self-sufficient and uses a pellet stove for heating. The design aesthetic of the home is as unique as its components, and features asymmetrical shapes that rest among local rock formations. Despite being compact and composed of unconventional materials, the home is comfortable and boasts a great view of the Colorado mountain ranges. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.1/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 90% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) > [Eco Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/ecoarchitecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Repurposed Shipping Containers:** The use of repurposed shipping containers in home construction presents opportunities for sustainable and cost-effective housing solutions. - **Off-grid Living:** Designing homes that operate completely off-grid offers disruptive innovation possibilities for reducing reliance on traditional energy sources. - **Unique Design Aesthetics:** Incorporating asymmetrical shapes and unconventional materials in home design opens up disruptive innovation avenues for creating visually striking and comfortable living spaces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Construction:** The construction industry can embrace the trend of repurposed shipping containers to create sustainable and affordable housing solutions. - **Renewable Energy:** The renewable energy industry can explore the off-grid living trend to develop innovative products and services that support self-sufficiency and reduce carbon footprint. - **Home Design:** The home design industry can capitalize on the unique design aesthetics trend by offering customizable and visually appealing options for consumers looking for distinctive living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Shipping Container Tiny Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rising-sun.md) - [Versatile Compact Modern Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/augustine-tiny-home.md) - [Miniature Insulated Home Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ark-tiny-homes.md) - [Solar Powered Compact Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/e55000.md) - [Cost-Effective Shipping Container Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/custom-container-living-nook.md) - [Reinvented Compact Living](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/affordable-housing-prototype.md) - [Shipping Container-Built Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kennedy-model.md) - [Compact Sustainable Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-cabana.md) - [Eco‑tiny Sanctuarys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tign-tiny-homes.md)
