# Streetscape-Modeling Sites The ‘Streetmix’ Site Allows Users to Make Virtual Streets By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2013-08-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/streetmix References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/design-a-better-street-for-your-city-with-this-free-web-1150889025) & [streetmix.net](http://streetmix.net/-/21048) ‘Streetmix’ is a website that allows users to virtually build and improve the appearance of a street-front. [Urban planners and design enthusiasts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/from-rooms) will love the challenge of trying to fit an abundance of activities and services all within the span of two buildings. This distance can be changed for even more of a challenge, to mimic skinny lane ways. Working around these parameters is difficult, but figuring out just the right widths for roads, [bike lanes and sidewalks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/open-path) could prove to be a fun challenge. Street names can be customized and even made to look like the streets in your own neighborhood. This is a project by ‘Code for America 2013,’ aimed at collecting ideas for infrastructure improvements and ideal streetscapes created by users, which are then shared on the Streetmix blog. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.5/10 - Popularity: 2% | Activity: 4% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Virtual Street Design:** Opportunity to create virtual streetscapes and experiment with different design elements. - **Collaborative Urban Planning:** Opportunity for users to share their ideas for infrastructure improvements and ideal streetscapes. - **Customizable Streetscapes:** Opportunity to customize street names and recreate familiar neighborhoods. ### Who This Affects Most - **Urban Planning:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for urban planners to utilize virtual street design to experiment with new ideas. - **Design and Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for design enthusiasts to explore and improve streetscape aesthetics. - **Technology and Software Development:** Disruptive innovation opportunity to develop user-friendly platforms for collaborative urban planning and virtual street design. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Urban Design Card Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/city-making-101.md) - [Online Music Mixers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sprunki-game.md) - [Parametric Style Video Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reimagine-london.md) - [Virtual City Explorers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/city-explorers.md) - [Architectural Community Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/street-clubhouse.md) - [Pathfinding Algorithm Websites](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/map-pathfinding-visualizer.md) - [User-Created Metaverse Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/highrise-studio.md) - [Colorful Metaverse Cities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metaverse-cities.md) - [Green Community Building Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arckit-greenscape-village.md)
