Developed by [Signify](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mycreation-droplet), these streetlights make use of red LEDs with [Philips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ultraefficient-led-lightbulbs)' in-house Clearfield technology. Studies have previously managed to show that these lights don't disturb bats because their red wavelengths are perceived as darkness by bats, unlike green and white lights, which are disturbing to the furry, flying mammals. The town of Zuidhoek-Nieuwkoop was chosen as the testing ground for these streetlights because it's known to be frequented by rare bat species. The success of this venture means that these red LED lights could be used in other towns to ensure that bats aren't disturbed by human lighting needs. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.1/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 61% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Red LED Lighting:** Opportunity for companies to develop and implement red LED lighting solutions in various industries to minimize disruption to wildlife behavior. - **Clearfield Technology:** Potential for businesses to adopt Philips' in-house Clearfield technology in lighting systems to create more wildlife-friendly environments. - **Wildlife-friendly Lighting:** Emerging trend of using specialized lighting solutions, like the bat-friendly streetlights, to protect and preserve wildlife habitats in urban areas. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Outdoor Lighting Industry:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for companies in the outdoor lighting industry to develop and market wildlife-friendly lighting solutions. - **Environmental Conservation Organizations:** Opportunity for environmental conservation organizations to collaborate with technology companies to promote and implement wildlife-friendly lighting initiatives. - **Urban Planning and Development:** Incorporating wildlife-friendly lighting practices into urban planning and development projects can create more sustainable and ecologically responsible cities. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Bat-Friendly Forested Watchtowers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/watchtower-einderheide.md) - [Light Pollution-Reducing Island Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/island-lamp.md) - [Fish-Attracting Net Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/selective-fishing-underwater-light.md) - [Biocentric Lighting Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/biocentric-lighting-system.md) - [Stone Waste Street Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pebble-street-light.md) - [Nighttime Limited Electric Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nocturne-bike.md) - [Outdoor Lamp Post Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outdoor-lamp-post-light.md) - [Festive Colorful Fairy Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/signify.md) - [Mosquito-Repelling Outdoor String Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outdoor-string-lights.md)
