# Muddy Miniature Cities Street Artist EVOL Creates a Tiny Town in a Grassy Field By Josh Triantafilou | Published 2012-04-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/street-artist-evolv References: [toxel](http://www.toxel.com/inspiration/2012/04/12/miniature-underground-city/) & [evoltaste](http://www.evoltaste.com/) German street artist EVOL recently carved two intersecting canals into a field just outside of Hamburg, Germany, and constructed a miniature city inside of them. Wandering through these streets, one can be forgiven if they lapse into a bit of Godzilla-like behavior. The facades of the buildings are constructed from concrete, while the windows, complete with drapes, are painted on. The structures also address environmental concerns as the roofs are made from the grassy field in which the city lies. EVOL's work is outdoors and exposed to the elements. Because of this, the avenues of his fair city collect rainwater. Little puddles are found throughout the faux urban canyons that make up the town. On a miniature scale, however, these puddles are more like great floods. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 39% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Miniature City Trend:** Creating miniature models for public art installations and marketing materials presents a unique opportunity for 3D printing and other fabrication technologies to enhance the creativity and precision. - **Eco-friendly Structures Trend:** Using natural materials such as grass and concrete in order to construct sustainable structures is a disruptive innovation opportunity for the construction and architecture industries. - **Outdoor Art Trend:** Constructing art installations designed to withstand the elements can create opportunities for artists, fabricators and mechanical engineers. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art Industry:** EVOL's miniature city installations offers unique opportunities for 3D printing, augmented reality and public art installations. - **Construction Industry:** EVOL's sustainability-focused miniature cities can be seen as a possible innovative approach to the challenges of urban planning and development, encouraging construction companies to use eco-friendly resources. - **Marketing Industry:** The trend for creating miniature city models presents a creative opportunity for marketing companies looking for unique advertising campaigns. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Miniature Artful Hip-Hop Landmarks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/danny-cortes.md) - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md) - [Laser-Cut Urban Artistry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laser-cut-city-maps.md) - [Bubblegum Street Art Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hubbabubbabuilding.md) - [Inflatable Vibrant Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forest-dancer.md) - [Nature-Surrounded Miniature Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-mini.md) - [Evolved Vibrant Graffiti Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jan-kalb.md) - [Optical Illusion Replica Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liberty-science-center.md)
