# Strange Stairways Stairs by Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann May Be Hazardous to Your Health By Jessica Marcel | Published 2009-10-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/strange-stairways References: [dornob](http://dornob.com/metal-stairway-to-heaven-shocking-sky-staircase-design/) & [langbaumann](http://www.langbaumann.com/doku/index.html) I've seen some strange stairways before, but this is one that should have stayed a concept. This aluminum and [metal staircase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cobalt-coach-house) by architects Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann is suspended from the [side of a building](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-week-at-the-knees). No enclosure, no hand rail, no visible safety of any kind. More than many other strange stairways, Lang and Baumann's creation is striking and intriguing. Cool? Yes. But this is the point where strange stairways go from terrific to terrifying. **Implications** - Believe it or not, this scary, yet stunning staircase by Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann is as real as it gets. The metal steps are dangerous yet aesthetically alluring to the artful eye. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 84% | Activity: 86% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Dangerous Aesthetics:** A trend that combines dangerous design with captivating aesthetics in architecture and other design fields. - **Minimalist Safety:** A trend that emphasizes minimal safety features in design, such as handrails, to create a sleek and modern look. - **Extreme Risk-taking:** A trend that pushes boundaries in design by incorporating a high level of risk-taking and disregard for traditional safety measures. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Opportunity for architects to create visually striking designs that incorporate dangerous elements to push creative boundaries. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity for interior designers to incorporate minimal safety features in their designs, while still maintaining a functional and visually appealing space. - **Fashion:** Opportunity for fashion designers to create avant-garde designs that incorporate dangerous materials or shapes, pushing the limits of wearability. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Concrete Spiral Staircase Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cadenza.md) - [Bold Architectural Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-iron-house.md) - [Sculptural Experimental Artforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ladder-series.md) - [Sculptural Townhome Staircases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atelier-pierre-thibault-1.md) - [Dutch Barn Spiralled Staircase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/julia-van-beuningen.md) - [Dynamic Bookend Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stair-table.md) - [Timbered Passage Stair Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-annex.md) - [Elevated Leisure Habitats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elevated-leisure-habitat.md) - [Stilts-Reading Suspended Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-hole-with-the-house-around.md)
