# Gravity-Defying Domestic Scenes This Still Life Photo Series Rejects the Laws of Everyday Physics By Charlotte Joyce Kidd | Published 2015-10-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/still-life-photo References: [fubiz.net](http://www.fubiz.net/en/2015/10/06/surprising-colorful-daily-objects-photography/?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=webfeeds) & [alaincornu](http://www.alaincornu.com/en/art/) In this still life photo series by French artist Alain Cornu, everyday objects are made less ordinary when their susceptibility to the [force of gravity](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/serena-antigravity-humidifier) dramatically disappears. In the still life photos, [domestic items](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ilan-collection) are flung against the ceiling of a pretty modern home, creating scenes of oddly suspended, immobile chaos. In one image, a toaster and its accompanying rounds of bread are scattered across a ceiling against a peaceful background of light blue wall paint. In another still life photo, a beater still full of whip cream and a neatly arranged flock of strawberries hang above a room. In yet another, a paint roller creates a puddle of maroon on an otherwise pristine white ceiling. The still life photo series emphasizes the stillness and placidity of domestic life, injecting a paradoxical tranquility into shaken-up scenes. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.2/10 - Popularity: 73% | Activity: 75% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Gravity-defying Objects:** New trend of creating still life photos that challenge the laws of physics by suspending everyday objects in mid-air. - **Surreal Domestic Scenes:** The use of gravity-defying photography techniques to create visually striking and disruptive compositions of chaotic yet serene domestic settings. - **Paradoxical Tranquility:** A trend in which artists capture scenes that juxtapose chaos with calmness, challenging traditional notions of still life photography. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Photography:** Innovations in photography techniques that allow for the creation of gravity-defying still life images, opening up new artistic possibilities and styles. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers incorporating the concept of gravity-defying objects in their designs to create visually striking and unconventional domestic spaces. - **Home Appliance:** Companies investing in technologies that allow for the development of home appliances that can defy gravity, creating unique and attention-grabbing products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Tree Branch-Formed Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/celestial-attraction.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Fluid Function Art Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-flow.md) - [Delicate Illusory Ceiling Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aria-light.md) - [Physics-Informed Digital Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motion-sculpture.md) - [Paper Curvature Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-curves.md) - [Sculptural Experimental Artforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ladder-series.md) - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [AI-Generated Kitchen Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gaudiinspired.md)
