# Tongue Depressor-Like Lighting The Stick Lamp Collection by Matali Crasset is Classy and Crafty By Meghan Young | Published 2013-04-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stick-lamp-collection References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/stick-lamp-collection-by-matali-crasset/) & [matalicrasset](http://www.matalicrasset.com/) The Stick Lamp Collection looks like it was made out of a stack of popsicle sticks or the larger tongue depressor. Appropriately dubbed, the light fixtures may have a crafty aesthetic, but they were most certainly not assembled as part of a grade school project. Instead, the forms of the lamps are at once simple and intricate. Designed by Matali Crasset, a designer based in Paris, France, the Stick Lamp Collection was created for Fabbian Illuminazione. It is comprised of a table lamp, a wall lamp, four floor lamps and five suspension lamps as well as four different diffuser shapes. Crasset writes, "While the texture of the wood permits diffusing a soft and warm light, the repetition of the module creates an effect of unexpected graphics and shadows." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 36% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Crafty Lighting Designs:** The trend of crafting unique lighting designs from simple materials such as wood offers opportunities for eco-friendly and cost-effective lighting solutions. - **Modular Lighting Fixtures:** Modular lighting fixtures offer flexibility in design, making it possible to create both simple and intricate lighting arrangements to suit diverse needs in homes and public spaces. - **Soft Diffused Lighting:** The trend of producing soft and warm lighting through the use of wood diffusers offers opportunities for eco-friendly and aesthetically pleasing lighting designs. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** Innovative lighting designs such as the Stick Lamp Collection present opportunities for interior designers to offer clients unique, environmentally friendly and cost-effective lighting solutions. - **Sustainable Lighting:** Efforts towards environmentally friendly lighting could see a boon with the trend of crafting innovative and sustainable lighting designs. - **Architectural Design:** Architectural designers can explore lighting designs that integrate seamlessly into their structural designs with the flexibility and design potential offered by modular lighting fixtures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Soft-Linear LED Lighting Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pillar-collection.md) - [Organically Fluid Lighting Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pop-collection.md) - [Suspended Halo Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lamplox-minimalist-floor-lamp.md) - [Umbrella-Inspired Whimsical Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wasaga-lamp.md) - [Posh Paper Craft-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/japandi-lamp.md) - [Recycled Paper Pulp Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-lamp1.md) - [Oversized Pen Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bic-lamp.md) - [Ice Cream-Resembling Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-serve-lamp.md) - [Stackable Modular Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/module-table-lamp.md)
