The design is meant to commemorate all of the people that have died as a result of religious fanaticism. The impressive part about the monument is that it's been integrated into one of the most historic churches in the world, and is also done in a very modern way. The towers of Notre Dame have been added to with glittering facades, which is a far cry from what the aged structure usually looks like. According to DesignBoom, the "pair of towers symbolizes a desire for renewal and for a less dogmatic religion, while simultaneously referencing the history of the french landmark."
