# Steampunk Gaming Platforms This Steampunk Nintendo System is a Radically Retro Re-Imagination By Wes Walcott | Published 2012-09-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/steampunk-nintendo References: [kotaku](http://kotaku.com/5947060/guy-redesigns-rare-nes-model-for-his-steampunk) & [imgur](http://imgur.com/a/yVhog) Demonstrating both a love for old school gaming and magnificent metal shaping abilities, the fan-made steampunk [Nintendo](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nintendo-radio) system is a piece of fully functional art. Popularized by the works of authors like H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, steampunk is a fashion that emerged in the 80s and 90s that amalgamates elements from science fiction, fantasy and alternate history. It imagines a world where steam power is the dominant technology and is often portrayed in settings similar to Victorian era Europe or the wild west era in North America. [Steampunk](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/steampunk-espresso-machine) costumes and accessories generally involve semi-futuristic inventions that incorporate anachronistic mechanizations. In true steampunk fashion, [Reddit](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-oddly-satisfying-clock) user Andrew5785 constructed an astounding steampunk Nintendo system for his nephew. Although electronics collectors and old school Nintendo fans might be appalled at the sight of seeing an ultra-rare Top Loader edition NES-101 being modified in any way, this custom cartridge system looks absolutely gorgeous and is something any steampunk fan would be proud to own. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 52% | Activity: 54% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Steampunk Fashion:** Opportunity to develop new steampunk-inspired fashion lines that merge science fiction and history. - **Retro Gaming Revival:** Opportunity to create and market customized retro gaming consoles that appeal to niche subcultures like steampunk. - **Functional Art:** Opportunity to design and produce functional art pieces that combine aesthetic appeal with practical functionality. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Fashion and Apparel:** Opportunity for fashion brands to tap into the steampunk trend and offer clothing and accessories influenced by retro-futuristic elements. - **Gaming and Electronics:** Opportunity for gaming companies to cater to the demand for customized gaming consoles, targeting specific subcultures like steampunk enthusiasts. - **Art and Design:** Opportunity for artists and designers to create unique functional art pieces that merge artistic expression with practical use. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Nostalgic Gaming Console Radios](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nintendo-radio.md) - [See-Through Cartridge Gaming Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modretro-m64.md) - [Industrial Handheld Gaming Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocketman-p1.md) - [Vibrant Retro Handheld Gaming](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-classic.md) - [Gaming Console Coffee Makers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nintendo-fp-coffee-machine.md) - [Shapeshifting Gamer Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nintendo-game-boy-famicon.md) - [Vintage-Inspired Mini Gaming Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/am02-mini.md) - [Robotic Handheld Gaming Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/game-bot.md) - [E-Waste Portable Game Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/steam-deck-motherboard-case.md)
