# Steam Powered Rowboat New Boat Concept Lets Steam Do The Work By IdeaMan | Published 2008-03-06 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/steam-powered-rowboat-new-boat-concept-lets-steam-do-the-work References: [crabfu](http://www.crabfu.com/steamtoys/rowboat/) & [crabfu](http://www.crabfu.com/steamtoys/info_faq/) Although the actual boat, known as "Steam Rowboat II", is still in the development phase, the proof-of-concept mechanism (AKA Steam Rowboat I) seems to work very well! Artist/inventor I-Wei Huang has also built many other steam powered devices, which are described on his website [Crabfu.com](http://www.crabfu.com/steamtoys). Unfortunately, we don't know when the rowboat will be finished, since, in Huang's own words, *"it just seem to be too much headache, too many potential problems, sinking a nice engine being my number one concern :)"* Hopefully he changes his mind. I'd like to see this thing in action! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 7% | Activity: 73% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Steam-powered Boats:** Innovation opportunity to create eco-friendly, sustainable boats using steam power as an alternative energy source. - **Alternative Energy Transportation:** Opportunity to create unique and sustainable modes of transportation using alternative energy sources like steam power. - **Personalized Watercrafts:** Design personalized watercrafts with steam power technology for recreation or transportation. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Boating and Marine Industry:** Innovation opportunity to create sustainable and eco-friendly boats using steam power technology in the boating and marine industry. - **Transportation Industry:** Opportunity to create unique and sustainable modes of transportation in the transportation industry using alternative energy sources like steam power. - **Recreational Sports Industry:** Design personalized watercrafts with steam power technology for recreational use in the sports industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Solar-Powered Electric Boats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solarpowered-electric-boat.md) - [Mobile Motorized Inflatable Watercraft](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/goboat-20.md) - [Hydrofoiling Electric Boats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hydrofoiling-electric-boats.md) - [Water-Mapping Autonomous Boats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/watermapping-autonomous-boats.md) - [Portable Folding Boats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-folding-boat.md) - [Hot Tub Boats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacruzzi.md) - [Solar-Powered Compact Houseboats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fng-sng.md) - [Physically Looped Canal Boats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/looptheloop-boat.md) - [Convertible Exploration Boats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rand-roamer-29-boat.md)
