# Death Star Christmas Orbs Star Wars Ornaments Bring a Triple Threat to the Holiday Tree By Elise Ying-Hei Ho | Published 2012-12-06 | Special Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-wars-ornaments References: [etsy](http://www.etsy.com/listing/114864625/star-wars-christmas-ornaments-in-gold) & [etsy](http://www.etsy.com/shop/MoLGifts?ref=seller_info) A planet of mass destruction is hitting Christmas this year as [Etsy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sustainable-christmas-tree-alternative) user MoL Gifts brings the elegant, yet all-powerful Star Wars ornaments to the holiday tree. Shaped like the destructive Death Star, MoL Gifts' Star Wars ornaments are hand-painted in a beautiful matte gold with a hand-curled wire. Although these geeky sci-fi orbs seem a little extravagant for the holidays, the ornaments are actually simple Death Star toys that have been carefully converted by the Etsy user. Despite the fact that the Death Star has the ability to incinerate a planet with a single blow, this set of Star Wars ornaments comes in a set of three, making this [holiday decoration](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spicy-chicken-sandwich-ornament) a triple threat. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 65% | Activity: 78% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Special](https://www.trendhunter.com/special) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Geeky Sci-fi Ornaments:** There is a growing demand for geeky sci-fi ornaments, providing opportunities for artists and designers to create unique and niche holiday decorations. - **Handcrafted Christmas Decor:** Handcrafted Christmas decorations, like the hand-painted Death Star ornaments, are gaining popularity, creating opportunities for artisans and crafters to showcase their skills and offer unique products. - **Nostalgic Holiday Decor:** Nostalgic holiday decor, such as Star Wars-inspired ornaments, appeals to fans of the franchise and creates opportunities for licensed merchandise and collaborations with popular entertainment properties. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Design:** The art and design industry can tap into the growing demand for geeky sci-fi ornaments by creating unique and customizable holiday decorations inspired by popular culture. - **Craft and Handmade:** The craft and handmade industry can explore the market for handcrafted Christmas decor by offering personalized and artisanal holiday ornaments that cater to niche interests. - **Licensed Merchandise:** The licensed merchandise industry can capitalize on the popularity of nostalgic holiday decor by partnering with entertainment franchises to create officially licensed ornaments and collectibles. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sparkling Illuminated Festive Wreaths](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/starry-wreath.md) - [Gaming Star Toppers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/invincibility-star.md) - [Festive Sci-Fi Building Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gingerbread-atat-walker.md) - [Mid-Century-Inspired Paper House Ornaments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-christmas-ornament.md) - [Novelty Supermarket Ornaments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aldis-novelty-baubles.md) - [Holiday Collector’s Puzzle](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gingerbread-atat.md) - [Sci-Fi Large-Scale Block Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ucs-death-star.md) - [Sci-Fi Space Station Puzzles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maze-game.md) - [Collectible EDC Christmas Ornaments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-james-brand-throwflake.md)
