# Skeletal Droid Drawings John Karpinsky Honors the Dead with His Star Wars Day of the Dead Series By Michael Hines | Published 2011-03-28 | Special Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-wars-day-of-the-dead References: [technabob](http://technabob.com/blog/2011/03/25/star-wars-day-of-the-dead/) & [etsy](http://www.etsy.com/shop/captainmagnificent) Dia de los muertos (Day of the Dead) is still many months away, but that small detail shouldn't keep you from checking out John Karpinsky's Star Wars Day of the Dead drawings. Karpinsky has given several of [Star Wars' most iconic characters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-wars-x-citizen-rebel-starfighter-boxed-set) a Day of the Dead-inspired makeover, complete with floral patterns and skeletal facial features. Karpinsky's Star Wars Day of the Dead drawings are done in two groups: imperial and rebel. The imperial side features Darth Vader, Boba Fett and a stormtrooper. The rebel side is droid-heavy, with [R2-D2 and C-3PO](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/audio-technica-r2-d2) joining Princess Leia. Although I do fear the consequences of disrespecting Darth Vader and Boba Fett, I am going to have to give the nod to the rebels in terms of overall awesomeness. Seeing a flowery, skull-faced Princess Leia will change your life. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.9/10 - Popularity: 14% | Activity: 6% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Special](https://www.trendhunter.com/special) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Star Wars Day of the Dead Art:** The combination of Star Wars and Day of the Dead themes in artwork presents a disruptive innovation opportunity in the art industry. - **Floral Skull Art:** The incorporation of floral patterns and skeletal facial features in art creates a disruptive innovation opportunity in the home decor industry. - **Character Makeovers:** Giving iconic characters makeovers, such as a flowery, skull-faced Princess Leia, offers a disruptive innovation opportunity in the cosplay and costume industry. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art:** The art industry can explore incorporating Star Wars and Day of the Dead themes in their artwork. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can embrace the trend of floral skull art to offer unique and unconventional decor options. - **Cosplay and Costume:** The cosplay and costume industry can tap into the trend of character makeovers and create innovative and eye-catching costumes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dark Sci-Fi Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/darc-sport.md) - [Hand-Knit Sci-Fi Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handknit-scifi-sculpture.md) - [Festive Día de Muertos-Dolls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/da-de-muertos-dolls.md) - [Sci-Fi Franchise-Inspired Fashion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-wars-collection-2.md) - [Sci-Fi Film-Inspired Custom Eyewear](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lucasfilm.md) - [Sci-Fi Bath Soaps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-wars-bath-soap.md) - [Sci-Fi-Themed Donut Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pinkbox-doughnuts-star-wars-day.md) - [Real Life Cinematic Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/g1t4m1n1-droid.md) - [Sci-Fi-Themed Cars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volkswagen-2.md)
