# Offbeat Nutcrackers Star Trek and Margaret Thatcher By Bianca | Published 2008-10-20 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-trek-nutcrackers References: [gadgettastic](http://www.gadgettastic.com/2008/10/20/star-trek-nutcrackers/) I can't even handle how geeky these Star Trek nutcrackers are... but there's something pretty nerdy about nutcrackers to begin with. I'm not sure what's worse, a creepy, wooden toy soldier, or a Star Trek to crack open the [Christmas almonds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nutscom-holiday-snacks). Personally, if I had to get one of these contraptions for my home, I'd go all out with something really different, like a [glittery bumble bee](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deddy-bears) or something. To be quite serious, I wouldn't be surprised if nutcrackers get political again this year. What about a Swarovksi encrusted Obama or a Sarah Palin nutcracker? We featured a Hillary Clinton nutcracker last year, and as the gallery shows, there's a Margaret Thatcher, so why not? ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 3% | Activity: 22% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Geeky Nutcrackers:** Explore the market for nutcrackers with unique and geeky designs, opening up opportunities for niche collectors and fandom enthusiasts. - **Political Nutcrackers:** Tap into the political sphere by creating nutcrackers featuring popular political figures, providing a unique and satirical collectible for politically engaged individuals. - **Glittery Nutcrackers:** Introduce a line of nutcrackers adorned with glitter and other eye-catching elements to appeal to consumers looking for festive and glamorous holiday decorations. ### Where This Applies - **Collectibles:** Create a line of limited edition nutcrackers targeted towards collectors, offering exclusive designs and collaborations to drive demand. - **Political Merchandise:** Develop a range of political-themed nutcrackers and related merchandise, catering to politically engaged consumers who enjoy satirical and quirky products. - **Home Decor:** Incorporate unique nutcracker designs into the home decor industry, targeting consumers who want whimsical and unconventional options for holiday decorations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Elegant Nutcracker Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maillet.md) - [Novelty Supermarket Ornaments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aldis-novelty-baubles.md) - [Festive Nutcracker Desserts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/specially-selected-hazel-nutcracker.md) - [Kitchenware Christmas Crackers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fortnums-1707-crackers.md) - [Festive Sci-Fi Building Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gingerbread-atat-walker.md) - [Festive Sweater Vests](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fandomspecific-sweater-vests.md) - [Cubic Sci-Fi Advent Calendars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-trek-borg-cube-advent-calendar.md) - [Festive Gamer Keycaps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dwarf-factory-sweetmas-keycaps.md) - [Indulgent Festive Snack Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gnaw-chocolates.md)
