The Star Trek Internet Communicator allows you to keep it geeky and actually has a useful purpose. Designed after the original series, the Star Trek Internet Communicator “plugs into a [Mac](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-belkin) or a PC running Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 using its built-in USB cable, allowing you to use it to make [internet phone calls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wifi-home-phone) (requires broadband internet connection and your preferred voice-over-IP software),” according to Hammacher.com. No word on whether you will have any trouble dialing *tribbles* with this (I had to!). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 13% | Activity: 70% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Marketing](https://www.trendhunter.com/marketing) > [Branding](https://www.trendhunter.com/branding) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Geeky Internet Phones:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing internet phones that embody popular geek culture, such as TV shows or movies. - **Star Trek-inspired Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating new technology products inspired by the Star Trek franchise, appealing to fans and enthusiasts. - **Voice-over-ip Software:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Advancing and enhancing voice-over-IP software to offer improved internet calling experiences. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Consumer Electronics:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrating geek culture into consumer electronics to attract niche markets. - **Entertainment Merchandise:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Expanding the range of merchandise available for popular entertainment franchises, appealing to passionate fans. - **Telecommunications:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Reinventing and improving internet calling technologies in the telecommunications industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Retro Tech Phone Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/native-union-pop-phone.md) - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-trek-discovery-flash-drives.md) - [WFH Communication Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-communication-device.md) - [Sci-Fi Film-Themed Dart Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/starfleet-phaser-blaster.md) - [Sci-Fi-Themed Virtual Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roddenberry-archive.md) - [Sleek Holographic Communication Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/holographic-communication-device.md) - [Mindful Communication Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clicks-communicator.md) - [Whimsical Desktop Microphone Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/talkie-desktop-microphone.md) - [Replica Sci-Fi Toy Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playmobil-star-trek-klingon-bird-of-prey.md)
