# Garden-Infused Staircases The Ars Technica Staircase Project Includes Plants Under Each Step By Kyle Towers | Published 2013-04-08 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/staircase-project References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2013/04/06/A-Garden-under-the-Stairs/) & [houzz](http://www.houzz.com/pro/bmstudio4255/bm-studio) This incredible staircase project by Ars Technica makes good use of the empty space that is available under each step. The piece of architecture is certainly a great way to welcome guests into your house. What is really special about this staircase project is the eclectic use of plants that appear under the steps. For those looking to re-enact this project, it's really dependent on the type of plants being used and what the atmosphere is like in the location where it is being constructed. Creating this staircase in temperate regions may make it difficult to maintain, especially since it is extremely difficult for plants to survive during the winter months. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 69% | Activity: 74% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) > [Eco Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/ecoarchitecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Garden-infused Architecture:** Incorporating plants into architectural designs creates unique and inviting spaces. - **Vertical Gardens:** Utilizing empty spaces like staircases for growing plants offers opportunities to improve indoor air quality and aesthetics. - **Eco-friendly Interior Design:** Using plants as part of interior design promotes sustainability and biophilia in built environments. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Architects can explore innovative designs that incorporate nature, creating visually appealing and sustainable structures. - **Home Decor:** Home decor companies can provide products and services that allow individuals to incorporate plants into their interior design, enhancing the ambiance of living spaces. - **Landscaping:** Landscaping businesses can expand their services to include vertical gardening, offering clients unique and green outdoor and indoor spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Chic Staggered Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/staggered-planters.md) - [Bold Architectural Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-iron-house.md) - [Plant-Filled Latticed Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/touching-eden-house.md) - [Climbing Plant-Wrapped Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nevogilde.md) - [Architecture-Inspired Indoor Gardens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vegetment-vegetable-cultivator.md) - [Timbered Passage Stair Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-annex.md) - [Elevated Leisure Habitats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elevated-leisure-habitat.md) - [Dutch Barn Spiralled Staircase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/julia-van-beuningen.md) - [Skylit Belgian Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/he-winter-garden.md)
