# Whimsical Stage Props This Stage Set Features Over-Sized Artwork and Illuminated Neon Lights By Ady Floyd | Published 2015-10-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stage-set References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2015/10/06/studio-job-mika-no-place-in-heaven-tour-set-design-giant-illustrations/) [Studio Job](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crate-installation) designed and executed this whimsical stage set for its first-ever music project with British musician Mika. During the artist’s ‘No Place in Heaven’ tour, the stage design elevated all of the artist's performances. Each [art installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/louis-vuitton-octopus) became a vital piece of the overall production. Studio Job used a [large disco ball, psychedelic lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/psychoacoustic-light-ensemble) and over-sized mural paintings to captivate the audience and enhance Mika's musical performances. Each image -- which displayed things from chimneys to sinking ships -- was hand-drawn on small pieces of paper. These images were later blown up into massive, stage-sized artworks. By layering each of the elements of the stage set, a hybrid of two and three-dimensional perspectives was achieved. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 17% | Activity: 27% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Whimsical Stage Design:** The use of over-sized artwork and illuminated neon lights in stage design creates a whimsical and captivating experience for the audience. - **Integration of Art Installation:** The integration of art installations as vital pieces of stage production adds a unique and visually engaging element to performances. - **Hybrid Perspective:** The combination of two and three-dimensional perspectives in stage design offers a fresh and immersive experience for the audience. ### Where This Applies - **Entertainment:** The entertainment industry can incorporate whimsical stage design to create memorable performances that leave a lasting impact on the audience. - **Music:** The music industry can employ the integration of art installations in stage sets to enhance visual storytelling and elevate live performances. - **Fine Arts:** The fine arts industry can explore the concept of hybrid perspective in stage design to create innovative and experiential installations for exhibitions and events. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Miniature Music Stages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/future-fan-stage.md) - [Tropical Modernism Stage Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/south-asian-stage.md) - [Reflective Hemispherical Theater Stages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ball-theater.md) - [Music Festival Fabric Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fabric-mushrooms.md) - [Concert-Producing Music Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stagespeaker.md) - [Ultra-Colorful Design Studios](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whimsical-studio.md) - [Intricate Lighting Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/objects-of-common-interest1.md) - [Immersive Crystal Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immersive-crystal-installation.md) - [Immersive Kinetic Glass Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kinetic-glass-installation.md)
