[Microsoft](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cancer-ai-alliance) and SRL Diagnostics have created an AI system that can diagnosis cervical cancer at a faster rate. The two organizations originally worked on the project last year. Notably, the new system runs on Microsoft's [Azure](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-terminals) to screen images for the early stages of cancer.

The system is undergoing a validation process in labs, which will take anywhere from three to six months. During this time the system will analyze over half a million images.

Dr. Arnab Roy is the SRL Diagnostics Technical Lead for New Initiatives & Knowledge Management, Dr. Roy also spoke on how the AI system could affect healthcare in the future, "The API has the potential of increasing the productivity of a cytopathology section by about four times. In a future scenario of automated slide preparation with assistance from AI, cytopathologists can do a job in two hours what would earlier take about eight hours!”
