# Marble-Mimicking Concrete Seats The Spurt Lounge Chair by Paulsberg Looks Cold Yet Comforting By Meghan Young | Published 2011-03-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spurt-lounge-chair References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2011/03/01/the-spurt-lounge-chair-by-paulsberg/) & [paulsberg.co](http://www.paulsberg.co/) The Spurt Lounge Chair emits both a cold, yet comfortable aura that makes it an entirely captivating piece of [home furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monk-armchair). Although it looks to be made out of marble at first glance due to its subtle swirling patterns, it is actually crafted out of [carbon-textile reinforced concrete](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pul-collection). This is what gives the Spurt Lounge Chair a rather chilly vibe. Yet the overall design of the Spurt Lounge Chair lends to a warmer, laid-back feeling. Together, these two contradicting ideas yield a unique seat. Designed by German design studio Paulsberg, the Spurt Lounge Chair is available in both an [outdoor or indoor model](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/africa-collection). It is entirely handmade, which gives it an even more special touch. By the looks of the gallery, even children are drawn to it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 43% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Marble-mimicking Concrete:** The trend of using carbon-textile reinforced concrete to mimic the look of marble presents an opportunity for innovative construction materials that are visually appealing yet durable. - **Contradicting Design:** The trend of combining contrasting elements in design, such as a cold appearance with a warm feel, opens up possibilities for creating unique and captivating products that surprise and delight consumers. - **Handmade Furniture:** The trend of handmade furniture offers opportunities for artisans and craftspeople to leverage their skills and create bespoke, one-of-a-kind pieces that stand out in a mass-produced world. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Construction Materials:** The construction materials industry could explore the development of carbon-textile reinforced concrete as a viable alternative to traditional materials, offering both aesthetic appeal and structural strength. - **Furniture Design:** In the furniture design industry, there is an opportunity to experiment with contrasting elements, materials, and textures to create visually striking and emotionally engaging products like the Spurt Lounge Chair. - **Artisanal Crafts:** The trend of handmade furniture opens up opportunities for artisans and craftspeople in the home decor industry to showcase their skills and create unique, high-quality pieces that cater to discerning consumers seeking individuality and craftsmanship. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Ultra-Comfy Seating Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cushy-lounge-chair.md) - [Experimental Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/philipp-aduatz.md) - [Tubular Vibrant Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/naughtone-percy.md) - [Sleek Steel Structural Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/combchair.md) - [Swivelling Marbled Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/landmark-project.md) - [Rope-Like Dynamic Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caterpillar-lounge.md) - [Skeletally Inspired Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chaise-espinhal.md) - [Cozy Contemporary Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-perron-bun.md) - [Outdoor Scandinavian Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bste-lounge-chair.md)
