The Under Pressure Solutions, or UPS, collection is aptly named thanks to compressed sheets of cellulose sponge that can fit within flat parcels for letterbox delivery. The shipping-friendly furniture designs are made from wood offcuts and gets its strong, resilient qualities from the same fibres that reinforce tree trunks and branches. "Cellulose is a part of nature so, like a tree, it can be flexible and strong at the same time," ÉCAL researcher and industrial designer Christophe Guberan told [Dezeen](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bliss-sofa). Thanks to its unique composition, the grow-at-home stools, shelves and tables can be cut to customize, re-wet to smooth out dents and imperfections, compressed for moving, and recycled or backyard composted at the end of their usable lives. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 47% | Activity: 65% | Freshness: 23% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Expandable Sponge Furniture:** Revolutionizing furniture design with expandable sponge materials that transform in water. - **Shipping-friendly Designs:** Innovating furniture packaging by creating shipping-friendly designs that can fit in flat parcels. - **Customizable Eco-friendly Furniture:** Pioneering eco-friendly furniture options that can be cut, re-wet, and composted for sustainable living solutions. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Exploring new materials and techniques for creating innovative furniture pieces with enhanced functionality. - **Eco-friendly Packaging:** Transforming the packaging industry with sustainable, flat-pack solutions for shipping furniture products efficiently and conveniently. - **Home Decor and Interior Design:** Reimagining interior design possibilities with customizable furniture that adapts to consumer preferences and sustainability goals. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Self-Shaping Wooden Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hygroshape.md) - [Envelope-Packaged Couch Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/couch-in-an-envelope.md) - [Adaptive Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expand-furniture.md) - [Oozing Cake-Like Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roll-furniture.md) - [Eco-Friendly Styrofoam Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/we.md) - [Expanding Three-in-One Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expandy.md) - [Compact Collapsing Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acordion-modular-sofa.md) - [Stackable Flat-Pack Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bug-collection-1.md) - [Expanded Polystyrene Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/recycled-furniture-pieces.md)
