Kicking off the annual Vivid Sydney 18-day festival of art, music and ideas is the Spinifex Group PLAY art piece, a gorgeous kaleidoscopic reworking of the city's most iconic structure.

Designed by Australia's Spinifex Group, 'PLAY' transforms the [Sydney Opera House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foster-partners6) sails into a [rainbow-colored light installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shapes-of-light) that reinvents the city's whole skyline. Etched with lines of neon yellow, purple, green and red to create a modern and engaging new look for the sails during the festival, the Spinifex Group PLAY artwork celebrates the heart of the artistic festival.

Other makeovers during the festivities include The [Museum of Contemporary Art Australia](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/torontos-harbourfront-centre) with its 3D mapped illuminations lighting up the building's exterior, as well as the Sydney Harbour Bridge which has interactive lighting where you can instantly paint the bridge in a color of your choice.
