# Open-Concept Compact Cottages Claim Architecture Creates a Spacious Get Away on a Small Lot By Eric Westcott | Published 2014-03-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacious-cottages References: [ilikearchitecture.net](http://www.ilikearchitecture.net/2014/03/house-woods-claim/) & [claimspace.de](http://www.claimspace.de/) Starting with a simple bungalow design, the architecture group 'Claim' creates a spacious cottage out on a limited size plot. The cottage steps away from the basic box shape of a bungalow, and creates spacious rooms where they would otherwise not be able to. With large windows and a crisp white interior, this cottage grows in size when the sun shines into it. The large windows provide an amazing view of the trees and wilderness spread out in front of the cottage. By adding a simple cupboard post between the kitchen and living room, you get the feel of having two separate rooms while still having an open feel to the room. The simple design makes this spacious cottage the perfect get away for a couple in love, or those who are just looking for a [city escape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiny-getaway). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 83% | Activity: 54% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Open-concept Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore how open-concept design principles can be applied to other types of built environments, such as offices or retail spaces, to create more spacious and flexible layouts. - **Compact Living:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop innovative compact living solutions that maximize space utilization and offer a range of functional amenities within limited size plots, catering to the growing demand for sustainable and affordable housing options. - **Natural Integration:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine nature and architecture by incorporating large windows, natural light, and immersive views into urban dwellings, promoting a connection to the outdoors and enhancing well-being. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture and Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Redefine traditional architectural and interior design practices by embracing open-concept design, compact living, and natural integration, creating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces that optimize the use of limited resources. - **Real Estate Development:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Innovate in real estate development by incorporating open-concept compact living concepts into urban environments, offering efficient and attractive housing options that address space constraints and sustainability goals. - **Tourism and Hospitality:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Reinvent hospitality offerings by creating unique and sustainable getaway experiences with open-concept compact cottages, attracting eco-conscious travelers seeking intimate connections with nature and cozy accommodations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Compact House Getaways](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chipper-bnb.md) - [Reisdential Cottage Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/borova-lada-cottage.md) - [Wedge-Shaped Stealthy Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barbora-vokac-taylor-architect.md) - [Tranquil Cozy Canadian Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/white-rock-cottage.md) - [Countryside Woodland Cabin Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aralar-cottage.md) - [Compact Cottage Revivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rustic-renovation.md) - [Intimate High-Altitude Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/altihut.md) - [Gabled Annexe Vintage Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solitgarreau-residence.md) - [Reinvented Compact Living](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/affordable-housing-prototype.md)
