It seems we're running out of advertising space (or at least good/fresh space) so now companies are eager to increase their market share in space. In 1985, [Coca-Cola](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/starlight) and [Pepsi](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pepsi-smart-can) seized an opportunity to test the viability of carbonated drinks in space. Both companies benefited from the first unofficial taste test in space.

Then in 2001 [Pizza Hut](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pepsi-chase-cars) flew with the Russian Space Agency and became the first to deliver pizza in space. Radio Shack followed with a commercial aboard the International Space Station. It featured a Russian cosmonaut opening a Father's Day present. NASA has been reluctant to participate, but marketers say advertising could help fund scientific research. NASA is currently working with the Bush administration to conduct an evaluation for a commercialization strategy in space.
