# Space-Saving Floating Shelves 'Circulum' is a Floating Shelf Desiged to Optimize Storage Space By Ell Smith | Published 2017-05-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-saving-floating-shelf References: [core77](http://www.core77.com/posts/66266/A-Floating-Shelf-To-Get-Hung-Up-On) & [raketa.si](http://raketa.si/) 'Circulum' is a chic and minimalist space-saving floating shelf designed by Raketa, a Slovenian architecture design company. Hanging shelves are typically prone to basic design flaws, primarily the spillage caused by their inevitable swinging. 'Circulum' aims to combat this while maintaining the shelf's aesthetic as well as its structural needs. A pendulum-like weight was added to the bottom of the shelf providing it with added stability. Chic and space-optimizing furniture designs are in high demand after seeing an increase in younger generations opting to rent smaller apartments, as opposed to buying houses. Offered in various colors and materials including hardwoods, metals, leather and marble, the floating shelf is a perfect space-saving solution for any apartment. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.1/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 83% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Floating Shelf Designs:** The rise in popularity of floating shelves presents an opportunity to further optimize their space-saving capabilities and minimize basic design flaws. - **Chic Space-saving Furniture:** As younger generations opt for smaller living spaces, there is an opportunity to design minimalist and chic space-saving furniture that accommodates their needs. - **Customizable Space-saving Solutions:** Offering various colors and materials for space-saving furniture provides a customizable solution to meet individual design and storage needs. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Interior design companies can capitalize on the demand for minimalist and chic space-saving furniture designs for smaller living spaces. - **Home Improvement Retail:** Home improvement retailers can cater to consumers offering customizable space-saving solutions by expanding their floating shelf inventory with various colors and materials. - **Architecture Design:** Architecture design companies can innovate on floating shelf designs, incorporating elements such as pendulum-like weights to further optimize space-saving capabilities and minimize design flaws. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Discreet Folding Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-shelf.md) - [Removable Plate Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gere-multifunctional-crockery-shelf.md) - [Simple Assembly Sustainable Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/svolta.md) - [Clock-Accented Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omega-shelf.md) - [Modular Contemporary Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qurv.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Versatile Modern Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/utility-shelf.md) - [Room-Dividing Bookshelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frquence-shelf.md)
