The ambitious project was debuted by [Blue Origin](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-glenn-1) which is [Amazon](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amazon-2) CEO Jeff Bezos' aerospace company. During the release, the start-up showcased some prototypes of a vessel, as well as some mesmerizing visuals of what a self-sustaining space habitat might look like. The entire concept for Blue Moon is inspired by a 20th-century physicist who goes by the name of Gerard K. O’Neill. Like O'Neill, Bazos holds that "the surface of another planet would [not] be viable for a growing technological civilization," however that it could sustain humankind through "space cylinders that store architecture and greenery." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 65% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Life](https://www.trendhunter.com/life) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Self-sustaining Space Habitats:** Blue Origin has released a concept for self-sustaining space habitats, creating opportunities for innovation in space exploration and architecture. - **Space Colonization:** With the concept of self-sustaining space habitats, the possibility of colonizing other planets using self-contained structures presents an opportunity for innovation in sustainable living. - **Aerospace Architecture:** The design and construction of self-sustaining space habitats presents an opportunity for innovation in aerospace architecture as well as sustainable technology. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Aerospace Industry:** The aerospace industry can take advantage of the potential of self-sustaining space habitats, benefiting from investments in new materials, propulsion systems, and construction techniques. - **Green Technology Industry:** The development of self-sustaining space habitats will require innovations in renewable energy, water and waste management, and biological systems, hence the green tech industry can be involved. - **Space Exploration Industry:** Self-sustaining space habitats offer a new horizon of opportunities for innovation in space exploration, asteroid mining as well as human spaceflight programs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sustainable Alien Planet Colonies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colony-concept.md) - [Moon-Bound Architectural Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moonhouse-project.md) - [Multi-Level Orbital Modules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbital-module.md) - [Martian-Informed Inflatable Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/martian-house.md) - [Space-Launching Science Missions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-glenn-1.md) - [3D-Printed Moon Shelters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lunar-surface-base.md) - [Lunar Material-Based Solar Cells](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lunar-dust.md) - [Experimental Moon Landing Missions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ispace.md) - [Flax Fiber Floating Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blue-nomad.md)
