# Spherical Helicopter Toys The Space Ball by Kyosho Egg is Like a Mini Controllable Death Star By Meghan Young | Published 2012-10-23 | Life-Stages Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-ball References: [dvice](http://dvice.com/archives/2012/10/get-your-own-pe.php) & [techon.nikkeibp.co.jp](http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20121015/245540/) The [Space Ball](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-room) is like a birdcage and helicopter toy in one. In place of the classic helicopter form is a spherical shape that houses two sets of propellers and a motor. As Dvice points out, the Space Ball is like a tiny controllable Death Star, an observation that many 'Star Wars' fans would appreciate. Offered by Kyosho Egg, a shop based in Japan, the Space Ball is controlled by an infrared light. Equipped with a gyro sensor, the Space Ball can automatically right itself after a fall. Although the design is rather minimalist, the unorthodox shape is enough to captivate even the most distractible child and, let's face it, adult. Available in various colors, the Space Ball would make a unique Christmas gift. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 56% | Activity: 71% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Life-Stages](https://www.trendhunter.com/life-stages) > [Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/toys) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Spherical Toys:** Develop new spherical toys or gadgets that incorporate a minimalist design to appeal to both children and adults. - **Controllable Drones:** Create new drone designs that improve maneuverability and controllability using infrared light and gyro sensors. - **Miniature Death Stars:** Explore creating miniature versions of popular sci-fi props and figures for collectors and fans. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Toy Industry:** Develop new designs and technologies to capture the attention of both kids and adults in a highly competitive market. - **Drone Industry:** Continue to improve drone functionality and safety features to appeal to wider audiences and use cases. - **Collector's Market:** Create unique and collectible figures and props from popular sci-fi franchises to appeal to a niche consumer market. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sci-Fi Space Station Puzzles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maze-game.md) - [Miniature Spherical Replica Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-sphere.md) - [Oversized Spherical Dog Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/herding-ball.md) - [Mechanical Kinetic Motion Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mezmoglobe.md) - [Transparent Sphere Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sphere-vehicle.md) - [Digital Hamster Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bitzee-hamster-ball.md) - [Space-Inspired Toy Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-collections.md) - [Detailed Action Figure Helicopters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/assault-copter-dragonfly.md) - [Ultrasonic Balloon-Borne Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blimp-drone.md)
