# Brutalist Suburban Family Houses Pandolfini Architects Designs the South Yarra House By Amy Duong | Published 2025-04-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/south-yarra-house References: [mylesbaldwin](https://mylesbaldwin.com/) Australian design firm Pandolfini Architects has completed the South Yarra House nestled in a [suburban community](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palm-house). It has a three-story build and made to be a place of sanctuary for the clients. The team created the home's front elevation to function as a 'protective shield' from the neighboring homes. To enter the home, it opens at the east side which welcomes a bright double-height foyer. Pandolfini shares, "A special moment that you experience is the introduction of the [curved brick monolithic form](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sobremesa-house) floating over you once you enter through the front door. The monolith gives nothing away of what is hidden behind, until you make your way up to level one where a dark, moody entertainment area, contradictory in materiality, is revealed. These gestures facilitate a dynamic refuge for the inhabitants, behind an unbeknownst [concrete facade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/runda-1)."
