# Sophisticated Pop-Up Books Philippe UG Designs an Artistic Tomb for Grown-Ups By Meghan Young | Published 2015-01-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sophisticated-popup-book References: [fastcodesign](http://www.fastcodesign.com/3040486/a-pop-up-book-for-grownups) & [philippe-ug.fr](http://www.philippe-ug.fr/) This sophisticated pop-up book is made with grown-ups in mind. Although a child could appreciate the shapes and bright colors that jump out as soon as the tomb is opened. The only difference is that there lacks a clear story-line or something specifically educational about this particular design. Nevertheless, there is something innately enlightening about the sophisticated pop-up book, if solely in a creative and imaginative way. Designed by [Parisian paper artist](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/longchamp-x-constantin-riant) Philippe UG, this sophisticated pop-up book is titled 'Pop-Up Op Art.' It is inspired by the iconic works of Hungarian-French artist Victor Vasarely. UG has "transformed seven of Vasarely’s already eye-popping pieces into 3-D pop-ups," according to [Fast Co Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aluminum-outdoor-furniture). In this way, the images teach people about a particular genre of art. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 51% | Activity: 26% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Sophisticated Pop-up Books:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating storytelling and educational elements into sophisticated pop-up books for adults, offering a unique and immersive reading experience. - **Art-inspired Pop-up Books:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating pop-up books that feature iconic works of art, introducing art appreciation to a wider audience in an interactive and engaging way. - **Creative Paper Engineering:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Exploring new techniques in paper engineering to create intricate and visually stunning pop-up books, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in book design. ### Who This Affects Most - **Publishing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Collaborating with artists and designers to revolutionize book formats and cater to a growing market of adult readers looking for unique and visually appealing reading experiences. - **Art and Culture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Merging art and literature through pop-up books, allowing art enthusiasts to engage with famous artworks in a tactile and interactive manner. - **Creative Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Pushing the boundaries of paper engineering in the design industry, leveraging pop-up books as a medium for showcasing innovative and visually striking creations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sci-Fi Show Pop-Up Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stranger-things-the-ultimate-popup-book.md) - [3-D Card Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/6-popup-animal-cards-to-make.md) - [Designer Blind Box Figurines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pop-top.md) - [Whimsical Pop-Up Cognac Bars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cognac-bar.md) - [Surrealist Pop-Up Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surrealist-popup.md) - [Playful Pop Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/louis-vuitton-octopus.md) - [Immersive Balloon Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balloon-story-popup.md) - [Sculptural Paper Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti.md) - [Book-Shaped Transparent Bookmarks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transparent-bookmark.md)
