Taking advantage of an [abandoned quarry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atelier-xk) in Shanghai, China, architecture firm Atkins designed the Songjiang Hotel. The surreal accommodation fully integrates the quarry into its design as it's built straight into a sheer wall. Since the quarry is filled with water, it acts as a [secluded sanctuary](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/intaaya-retreat) complete with a [peaceful lake](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lake-house-life-experience-pavilion).

The Songjiang takes advantage of its prime location by presenting visitors with some amazing features. Atkins designed the hotel to have a giant waterfall that drops off from the top of the building into the artificial lake below. In addition, the architecture firm planned for a sports facility that features rock climbing and bungee jumping straight off the quarry.

In addition to bein technologically advanced, the building is also eco-friendly. The Songjiang plans to use geothermal power to keep the hotel running.
