# At-Home Wine Dispensers The Somm Wine Dispenser Learns the Palate of Each User By Katherine Pendrill | Published 2016-04-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/somm References: [eater](http://www.eater.com/2016/4/11/11406198/wine-dispenser-kickstarter-startup-somm-synek) & [kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1620669801/somm-by-synek-wine-dipsenser-that-learns-your-pala) SYNEK recently launched a [Kickstarter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/water-dispensers1) campaign for a new wine dispenser called the 'Somm,' which learns the palate of each user. Following the success of its beer dispenser, the company is now targeting discerning oenophiles. Somm is a countertop wine dispenser that not only pours the perfect glass, but also [learns the user's preferences over time](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/personalized-wine-recommendation-app). The machine operates similarly to that of a [Keurig](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/djot) in that the machine uses beverage dispenser pods called 'sylos.' These pods are designed to hold and preserve the equivalent of three bottles of wine at a time. The sylos can then communicate with the machine to convey information about the wine's specific needs. All of this information is also accessible through a corresponding app that can be used to monitor current supplies and order more sylos when the wine is running low. With more consumers turning to connected kitchen tech as a way to elevate their dining experience, this device provides the perfect way to enjoy a great bottle of wine every time. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 64% | Activity: 57% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Kitchen](https://www.trendhunter.com/kitchen) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Connected Kitchen Tech:** The Somm wine dispenser taps into the trend of consumers embracing connected kitchen tech to enhance their dining experience. - **Personalized Wine Dispensing:** The Somm wine dispenser showcases the trend of personalization by learning the palate of each user, delivering a customized wine experience. - **Beverage Dispenser Pods:** The Somm wine dispenser utilizes the trend of using beverage dispenser pods, known as sylos, which hold and preserve multiple bottles of wine. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Kitchen Appliances:** The Somm wine dispenser presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the kitchen appliances industry by integrating connected technology and personalized beverage dispensing. - **Wine Industry:** The Somm wine dispenser introduces disruptive innovation to the wine industry by offering personalized wine dispensing and enhancing the wine drinking experience. - **Tech Accessories:** The Somm wine dispenser opens up disruptive innovation opportunities in the tech accessories industry by providing a connected app for monitoring supplies and ordering more beverage dispenser pods. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [AI-Recommended Wine Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sippd.md) - [At-Home Beer Keg Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/athome-beer-keg-machine.md) - [Interactive Wine Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sharevino.md) - [Painterly AI Sommeliers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-sommeliers.md) - [Sulfites-Eliminating Portable Wine Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uno-wine-purifying-wands.md) - [Flavor Preservation Wine Openers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coravin-timeless-three-sl.md) - [Robotic Beverage-Crafting Baristas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sidework-dispenser.md) - [Portable Wine Coolers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-wine-cooler.md) - [Virtual Wine Concierges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jessup-cellars.md)
