# Thoughtful Twisting Bicycles The Somerset Folding Bike by Kaiser Chang Boasts a U-Shaped Frame By Meghan Young | Published 2016-01-28 | Lifestyle Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/somerset-folding-bike References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2016/01/26/a-twist-rather-slide-on-the-folding-bike/) The folding bike is at once practical and impractical -- yet the unique design of the Somerset Folding Bike hopes to change that. It boasts a U-shaped frame that allows people to twist the extremities inwards instead of folding them, making the process significantly easier and quicker. The Somerset Folding Bike remains just as compact as more traditional designs while introducing a much more efficient process. Designed by [Kaiser Chang](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oatbased-frozen-dessert), the Somerset Folding Bike is not only functional, it's stylish as well. As compact as [folding bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twospeed-folding-bike) get, there's often an ugly bulkiness associated with them as well. Nevertheless, function is at the heart of the design. [Yanko Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chopsticks-maker) writes, "The circular steel structure and semi-arc frames can be transformed into a rollable handcart in seconds, making it easy to transfer between cycling and other forms of transportation like the subway or bus." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.7/10 - Popularity: 97% | Activity: 96% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Sports](https://www.trendhunter.com/sports) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Twisted Folding Bicycles:** New folding bike designs with twisted U-shaped frames that make the process easier and quicker. - **Compact Multifunctional Bicycles:** Advances in design have resulted in folding bikes that remain compact and now have additional uses beyond cycling. - **Stylish Functional Bicycles:** Designers are focusing on the look and functionality of folding bikes to create a more attractive and practical product. ### Where This Applies - **Bicycle Manufacturing:** The bicycle manufacturing industry has opportunities to innovate with new designs and technology in the folding bike space. - **Public Transportation:** Public transportation industries and cities can consider incorporating compact and multifunctional folding bikes into their services to promote alternative transportation options. - **Sustainable Transportation:** Advancements in folding bike technology and design contribute to the movement towards sustainable transportation methods, making it an evolving industry worth investing in. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wheel-Wedging Folding Bicycles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wheel-wedging-folding-bicycle.md) - [Compact Collapsible Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collapsible-bike.md) - [Tri-Fold Unibody Electric Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onebots7.md) - [Compact Foldable City Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pop-cycle.md) - [Practical Three-Fold Bicycle Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/threefold-bicycles.md) - [Collapsible Belt-Driven Commuter Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/priority-folder.md) - [Adaptable Foldable Electric Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buzzy-bike.md) - [Fast-Folding E-Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/btwin-e-fold-900.md) - [Unconventional E-Bike Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pendler.md)
