The recent hostage taking and violent rescue of Captain Richard Phillips from Somali pirates has intensified the usual light-hearted and sometimes comedic portrayal of pirates, and has morphed it into a harsh reality. With audiences craving the next source of reality programming, a new [pirate reality show](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tinder-5) is born, and couldn’t come at a better time. Spike TV and 44 Blue Productions have been in negotiations with the U.S Navy for months. They intend to get footage of real warships searching for [real pirates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/naval-update). ‘Pirate Hunters: USN’ should air in the fall, and if successful, could end up as a SPIKE mini-series. Will the Somali pirates be part of this show? You’ll have to wait and find out.
