# Solar-Powered Bikes The Cycle Sol Bicycle By Marissa Brassfield | Published 2008-09-30 | Autos Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solar-powered-bike References: [dailymail](http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1061777/Pedal-power-The-amazing-bicycle-powered-sun.html) & [telegraph](http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?xml=/earth/2008/09/26/eabike126.xml) The [Cycle Sol](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lyric-cycle-graffiti-x) solar-powered bike is a concept that aims to make the lives of eco-friendly commuters far less strenuous. The Cycle Sol features a canopy that is covered with solar cells. As the cyclist pedals, the solar cells provide power for a small motor at the rear of the bike that will propel the rider along at up to 15 miles per hour. The motor in the Cycle Sol solar-powered bike would also help propel the rider up steep hills, greatly reducing the amount of effort required to navigate particularly hilly cities. This solar-powered bike was invented by Miroslav Miljevic of Z & Co Design in London. Miljevic says that the Cycle Sol can be fully charged while the bike is chained up outside on a sunny day. It can also be plugged into an electrical source--a useful cloudy-day detail. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.6/10 - Popularity: 62% | Activity: 69% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Autos](https://www.trendhunter.com/autos) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Solar-powered Bikes:** Disruptive Innovation Opportunity: Develop advanced solar-powered bike designs that maximize energy generation and assist with propulsion. - **Eco-friendly Commuting:** Disruptive Innovation Opportunity: Create innovative solutions that encourage and support eco-friendly commuting methods. - **Sustainable Transportation:** Disruptive Innovation Opportunity: Explore sustainable transportation alternatives that reduce reliance on fossil fuels and promote clean energy. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Bicycle Manufacturing:** Disruptive Innovation Opportunity: Integrate solar-powered technology into mainstream bicycle production. - **Renewable Energy:** Disruptive Innovation Opportunity: Develop renewable energy solutions that can be incorporated into various modes of transportation. - **Urban Mobility:** Disruptive Innovation Opportunity: Optimize urban transportation systems by incorporating eco-friendly and energy-efficient modes of commuting. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Solar-Powered Cargo Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solarpowered-cargo-bike.md) - [Solar-Powered Electric Motorbikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/e-clipse-2.md) - [Angular Enclosed Cargo Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solar-cargo-bike.md) - [Futuristic Solar-Powered E-Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stellar-landcraft.md) - [Solar-Powered eBike Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beambike.md) - [E-Bike Charging Partnerships](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bikeflex.md) - [Solar Panel-Covered Scooters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightfoot-scooter.md) - [Energy-Efficient E-Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aventon-soltera.md) - [Solar-Powered Bike Deliveries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunrider-1.md)
