# Solar Birdhouses Glowing Perch by OOOMS Attracts Insects for Birds at Night By Katie Cordrey | Published 2009-04-03 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solar-birdhouse-glowing-perch-attracts-insects References: [oooms.nl](http://www.oooms.nl) Dutch designers Karin van Lieshout and Guido Ooms at [Studio OOOMS](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/avro-pendant-lamp) have come up with an innovative application for a [small solar panel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-sula): [a birdhouse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dwellings-project) with a perch that lights up at night. Sunlight feeds the solar panel that in turn charges a small battery inside. Once the sun goes down, a transparent perch stick casts a tiny insect-attracting light. As insects near the light, the housed bird can pop her head out the birdhouse hole and snag a tasty snack. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 20% | Activity: 46% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Solar-powered Birdhouses:** The trend of solar-powered birdhouses presents an opportunity for designers to create innovative and eco-friendly birdhouse designs. - **Nighttime Illumination:** The trend of incorporating nighttime illumination in birdhouses opens up possibilities for creating unique and attractive designs that enhance bird-watching experiences. - **Insect-attracting Features:** The trend of integrating insect-attracting elements in birdhouses allows for the development of bird feeders that provide birds with a convenient source of food. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Design & Home Decor:** The design and home decor industry can leverage the trend of solar-powered birdhouses to create visually appealing and functional birdhouse designs. - **Outdoor Recreation:** The outdoor recreation industry can explore the trend of nighttime illuminated birdhouses to offer unique bird-watching experiences for enthusiasts. - **Gardening & Wildlife Products:** The gardening and wildlife products industry can tap into the trend of insect-attracting birdhouses to provide bird feeders that attract birds while helping control insect populations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sunlight-Mimicking Panelled Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sunne-lamp.md) - [Interactive Observation Wooden Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/domik-ptashki.md) - [Birdhouse-Integrated Address Signs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/our-common-house.md) - [Sustainable Bird House Feeders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bamboo-bird.md) - [Sustainable Solar Portable Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iggy-lamp.md) - [Bird-Inspired Speaker Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/birdinspired-speaker.md) - [Educational Linoleum Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elvi-birdhouse.md) - [Home Exterior Nesting Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/numbird.md) - [Modernism Birdhouse Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dwellings-project.md)
