# Colorful Contemporary Rockers The SOL Rocking Chair Looks Like a Stick Seat By Meghan Young | Published 2012-04-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sol-rocking-chair References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2012/04/05/sol-rocking-chair-by-constance-guisset-for-moltenic/) & [constanceguisset](http://www.constanceguisset.com/) The SOL Rocking Chair is [colorful and contemporary](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magnus-olesen). Created by French designer Constance Guisset for the Italian furniture manufacturer [Molteni & C](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/italian-embassy-london), it has a happy aesthetic that would put a smile on the face of even the most stoic individual. The interesting thing about the SOL Rocking Chair is that it doesn't look like a rocking chair at all. The base is straight, so it's hard to understand that the device can move back and forth. Another point not immediately perceivable is the narrowness of the base. The front edge slopes up and down subtly to create the perfect angle for rocking. Thus, the SOL Rocking Chair simply provides an updated aesthetic to a classic piece of furniture. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 38% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Colorful Contemporary Furniture:** Designing furniture with vibrant colors and modern aesthetics is a disruptive innovation opportunity in the furniture industry. - **Innovative Rocking Chair Designs:** Exploring new ways to reinterpret the traditional rocking chair design presents a disruptive innovation opportunity for furniture manufacturers. - **Hidden Functionalities in Furniture:** Creating furniture pieces with hidden or subtle design elements that enhance functionality offers a disruptive innovation opportunity in the furniture industry. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can incorporate colorful and contemporary designs into their product lines to capture a modern consumer base. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can embrace innovative rocking chair designs to create unique and visually appealing spaces for their clients. - **Home Decor Retail:** Home decor retailers can focus on showcasing furniture pieces with hidden functionalities to differentiate themselves in the market. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Contemporary Rocking Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/penguin-rocking-chair.md) - [Contemporary Rocking Pouffe Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/platero.md) - [Geometric Rocking Chair Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oval-rocking-chair.md) - [Dynamic Movement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbl-rocking-chair.md) - [Functional Decorative Rocking Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rool-stool.md) - [Otherworldly Themed Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ufo-rocking.md) - [Wooden Lounge Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nice-chair.md) - [Motion Blur-Inspired Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fast-rocking-chair.md) - [Fabric-Wrapped Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zhe-rocking-chair.md)
