In honor of Social Media Day 2013, [British Council](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/british-esports-association) has released an infographic with five golden rules that parents can use to ensure social media safety for their children.

According to this chart, 80% of 12-15 year olds in the UK are active on social networking sites and 35% of children have unsupervised access to the net. Not only are children spending more time online, but the age for watching and downloading user-generated content is getting younger and younger. One of the most important things parents can do is create a dialogue with their kids about their online activities and what kind of information is being shared.

Maintaining social media safety means getting involved and interested.
