# Rebellious Hand Gesture Graffiti (UPDATE) This Street Hands Graffiti Criticizes Spain By Kyle Towers | Published 2013-03-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/social-commentary-graffiti References: [itsnicethat](http://www.itsnicethat.com/articles/hands) & [street-hands.blogspot](http://street-hands.blogspot.co.uk/) A group of brilliant [street artists](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/slawn-crocs-classic-clog) from Spain use cleverly placed hands called Street Hands as social commentary graffiti to convey their distaste for the current economic trouble of their home nation. The rebellious social commentary graffiti is placed in calculated places throughout Spain, in order to further get their message across. One hand acts as a panhandler with a sign that reads "Help Spain," suggesting that Spain has reached its low point and is desperate for money. Another hand holds a crowbar and is attempting to break into a building, which conveys the message that things are getting to the point where people will resort to robbing and grand theft because of its state. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.2/10 - Popularity: 30% | Activity: 28% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Graffiti](https://www.trendhunter.com/graffiti) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Protest Street Art:** Opportunity for artists to use street art as a powerful medium to convey social commentary and criticize current issues. - **Clever Symbolism:** Trend of using symbolic elements like hands to communicate messages in a visually impactful and thought-provoking way. - **Localized Activism:** Growing movement of artists using their creativity to address and shed light on specific local issues. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Street Art:** Street art industry can capitalize on the trend of rebellious and impactful graffiti to enhance urban landscapes and provoke conversations. - **Social Activism:** Opportunity for social activism organizations to collaborate with artists and harness the power of street art to raise awareness and incite change. - **Tourism:** Emerging graffiti tourism industry where visitors can explore and learn about the significance and political commentary behind different street art installations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Creative Protest Archives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-protests.md) - [Digital Graffiti NFTs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/graffiti-wall-collection.md) - [Tree-Integrated Mysterious Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tree-mural.md) - [Art-Promoting Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beige-billboards.md) - [Urban Text Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peace-love-joy.md) - [Food-Inspired Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dish-pics.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Racism-Combatting Handbag Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antiracist-handbag.md) - [Whiskey-Themed Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/upfest.md)
